Local Island Excursions from Maafushi

Guraidhoo

Close to Maafushi Island, the island of Guraidhoo is less developed and less hectic. With a population of 1800 people, Guraidhoo is still a developing island, allowing you to experience the island life at its purest form. Peaceful and tranquil Guraidhoo features stunning shores with white sandy beaches.

There is even a small formation of island with topical foliage, isolated from the island body of Guraidhoo and connected through a wooden bridge. A great place to view the sunset while taking Instagram worthy clicks!

Gulhi

Similar to Guraidhoo, Gulhi is a small island with only a few handful of guest houses which can be easily accessed from Maafushi. Featuring azure waters, stunning beaches, and alluring views of the sunset and sunrise, a population of about 900 people resides in the place, giving the atmosphere of the Gulhi uninterrupted tranquility.

Gulhi is home to a spectacular less crowded and more beautiful bikini beach than Maafushi and a turquoise lagoon with crystal clear water. A variety of water sports are often hosted on the island enabling you to enjoy some thrilling activities in the exquisite environment of Gulhi. The beaches of Gulhi is also a great place to enjoy a relaxing sunset with your loved one.

How to book

The process of booking a day trip to both of these islands are quite similar. You can access these islands on your own through a public ferry available from Maafushi which costs about 3 dollars (cheapest option but do note that these run on schedules). A speedboat tour can be hired for about USD 17 per pax for a day. However, you may find it easier if you talk to your guest house for guided island excursions packages and let them arrange one for you.

These islands are nearby Maafushi so it usually takes less than 30 minutes to reach the islands so you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the rest of your day.
